In a town the size of Dacono, one porch changes the street

Dacono is the smallest place we serve, and that changes what a display does. On a short street, one built porch is not decoration, it is news. We deliver uncarved pumpkins and build the whole thing on site, usually in a single morning.

Low stoops, ranch homes and generous lots

Much of Dacono is single story, with ranch homes on wide lots, detached or side loaded garages, and a front door reached by two shallow steps. There is rarely a deep porch to work with, so the ground does the work instead. We build outward from the door across the front of the house, using the walk and the edge of the drive as the frame, with bales providing the vertical that the roofline never will. Lots here are big enough that a Full build spreads comfortably without looking sparse, which is not true in a dense subdivision. The other advantage is gravel and hard ground, since plenty of Dacono frontages have durable surfaces near the door, which take a display better than turf and stay dry through October.

Open country on three sides

Dacono sits with farmland and open prairie close on most sides, which affects a build in two ways. First, wind arrives with nothing in front of it, so everything is bedded and staked as a matter of course rather than only on exposed elevations. Second, the light is unobstructed, which is a genuine asset. Low autumn sun coming in late in the day across open ground hits a display from the side and makes it read from a long way off, so we place the taller elements where that light will catch them. Dust is the other open country factor, and it settles on a display through a dry October, so we use varieties with firm skins that wipe clean and still look right in the last week of the season.

Being seen in a town this size

Dacono does not have a lot of through traffic on its residential streets, so a display is mostly seen by people who already know you. That changes what makes sense. There is less reason to build for a passing stranger and more reason to build for the front window, the driveway and the walk to your own door. We angle Dacono builds toward the approach rather than square to the street, so the arrangement looks composed from where you actually see it every day. It also means a smaller package holds up well here. A Little build on a Dacono stoop does not look modest, because there is nothing next door competing with it, whereas the same package on a busy metro block can look lost.

Timing and getting on the schedule

Dacono sits in our near zone with Longmont, Erie, Frederick and Broomfield, so delivery adds $45. We usually pair Dacono builds with other Carbon Valley work on the same day, which means our available dates here cluster rather than spread evenly across the week. If you have a date in mind, say so early and we will try to build the run around it. Bookings tend to come in later here than in the bigger towns, often the last week of September, but the first two weeks of October then get busy and we would rather build before the first hard freeze than after. There are no cancellations or refunds once a booking is placed, so pick your week with that in mind.

Questions from Dacono

We are on a corner lot with two street frontages. Which side gets the display?

The side people actually approach from, which is usually the walk to your front door rather than the longer street elevation. Corner lots are common in Dacono, and splitting a display across both frontages tends to weaken it. We would rather build one strong arrangement.

Can we add to the display after it is built?

Yes. Extra hay bales are $25 each and mums are $25, and we can bring them out on a return visit if we are already working nearby in the Carbon Valley that week. Adding on is easier in September than in the last stretch of October.

What if we change our mind after booking?

Bookings are final. We do not offer refunds, returns or cancellations, in Dacono or anywhere else we work, because the season is short and a held date cannot be resold late. If your plans are not settled, wait until they are before you book.
