The classic round orange pumpkin, the one everyone pictures. Ours are whole and uncarved, chosen for an even shoulder and a good stem. These carry the weight of most displays.

A field guide to the pumpkins we install
Every package is a mix of varieties rather than a pile of one thing, because the mix is what makes a display read well from the street. This is what turns up on your porch and why each one is in there.
White Ghost (Lumina)
A smooth, chalk white pumpkin with almost no ribbing. It is the highest contrast thing we put on a porch, and it is what makes an orange display read as designed rather than piled.

Pie pumpkin
Small, dense sugar pumpkins in deep orange. They fill the gaps a big pumpkin cannot reach, along step edges and around the base of a hay bale. They are also the ones actually worth cooking with afterwards.

Cinderella (Rouge Vif d'Etampes)
Flat, deeply lobed and a rich burnt orange. It looks like the carriage, because it is the one the illustration was based on. A single Cinderella anchors a step better than three round pumpkins.

Jarrahdale
Blue grey, heavily ribbed and very hard skinned. It is the longest lasting pumpkin we install and the backbone of the neutral palette.

Porcelain Doll
A soft pink flattened pumpkin. It reads as pale peach at a distance and is the reason a neutral display looks warm rather than cold.

Knucklehead
Bright orange and covered in hard warts. It is the texture pumpkin, and one or two in a group stops a display looking too smooth and catalogue-like.

Green warted heirloom
Dark green, gnarled and heavy. Used sparingly as a full stop at the end of a run, or at the base of a stack where you want the eye to settle.

Grand Prize pumpkin
A jumbo field pumpkin, roughly 3 feet across, with the pale scarring and flat resting patch a genuine giant develops. It takes two of us to carry. Two are included in Fairy Tale, and one can be added to any package.

Ornamental gourds
Small striped and bumpy gourds in yellow, green and cream. They are the finishing detail, tucked into the gaps once the pumpkins are placed.
